The business of financial services has changed dramatically since 1855, largely due to the influence of new technologies. We are proud of our frequent leadership role in applying these advances to deliver better and faster service, and innovative financial products, to our customers.
The introduction of typewriters in 1900, adding machines in 1903 and bookkeeping machines in 1920 allowed employees to balance ledgers and customer passbooks each night, rather than monthly.
In 1962, TD Bank introduced our first computer system in a new department called Data Processing to streamline cheque clearing.
After successful tests in 1976, TD rolled out the Green Machine automated banking machine (ABM), one of the first full-function ABMs in Canada.
In 1981, TD customers could feel at home at more than 800 branches thanks to the arrival of the new Green Card. Able to perform Green Machine ABM transactions, the electronic card also identified TD customers in good standing to access inter-branch banking services.
The launch of Bankline in 1990 offered telephone banking to our customers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
During the 1990s, TD Access provided fully integrated computer banking and brokerage services for personal or business customers.
In 1996, Green Line Investor Services was one of the first brokerage firms to offer securities trading on the Internet via WebBroker.
For four years in a row, starting in 2004, TD Canada Trust’s EasyWeb has been named the "Best Consumer Internet Bank in Canada"¹. In 2006, a major Canadian poll by the Canadian Interactive Reid Report confirmed our position as the most popular internet bank in the country and placed us first in online banking customer satisfaction. Our EasyWeb Security Guarantee is just one example of our innovative approach to customer satisfaction and industry-leading technology.
In our U.S. operations, in 2007, TD Banknorth’s website was ranked #1 for Simplicity and Responsiveness by the Customer Respect Group, an international research and consulting firm.
Over the coming years we expect that our business will continue to lead the way in technological innovations that make it easier for you to enjoy safe, secure and comfortable and convenient banking.
