As Head of Group Strategy, TDBFG, Bernie is responsible for TD's global capabilities including North America, China and India. To support this mandate, Bernie chairs a Global Strategy Committee made up of leaders from across the bank.
Bernie is responsible for our global insurance business which includes home and auto, life and health, credit protection products and international reinsurance. He also works closely with the Personal and Commercial Bank's leadership team in Canada and is involved in TD Canada Trust's overall business strategy and direction in his role as Deputy Chair, TD Canada Trust.
Bernie joined Canada Trust in 1995 after holding several senior executive positions in insurance and financial services during his 22 years with the Laurentian Group of Companies. Bernie led Canada Trust Insurance and the acquisition of Meloche Monnex. During his tenure with Canada Trust, Bernie held a variety of senior executive roles involving both insurance and banking.
Following the TD Canada Trust merger, he moved into the role of Executive Vice President, Lending and Insurance, and then the overall Retail Product Group until his appointment as Executive Vice President, Business Banking & Insurance and Deputy Chair, TD Canada Trust in 2003.
From 2005-2008, Bernie was Group Head Business Banking and Insurance and Co-Chair TD Canada Trust, His responsibilities included all aspects of the commercial and small business customer experience, from product development to sales and training assistance for the bank's delivery channels. Bernie's portfolio also included TD's property and casualty insurance business, TD Meloche Monnex, and the life and health insurance and reinsurance business.
Bernie graduated from Laval University and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society in the United States. He is married with one son and one daughter and divides his personal time between Toronto and Quebec.
