As Group Head, Wealth Management, TD Bank Financial Group and Chairman and CEO, TD Waterhouse, Bill has responsibility for TD’s Global Wealth Management organization. This includes the online brokerage business, financial planning, investment advice, private investment counsel, private banking, private trust and Asset Management.
Bill joined TDBFG in January 2003 and has over 30 years’ experience in the Banking and Wealth Management fields. Prior to joining TD, Bill was the COO, Global Wealth Management for the Royal Bank of Canada. Bill also served in senior executive positions at brokerage firms Richardson Greenshield and Midland Walwyn Capital.
Before he entered the financial services industry, Bill played professional football in the Canadian Football League, and was a member of the 1976 Ottawa Rough Riders Grey Cup Championship Team.
Bill is Chairman of the TDBFG Diversity Leadership Council, which champions sustainable diversity initiatives throughout the Bank.
Bill is a director of TD Ameritrade and a member of its Risk Committee, and is the former Chairman of the Board for the Investment Industry Association of Canada. He also serves on the board of the York University Foundation and recently co-chaired its successful capital campaign. In 2008, he was recognized with the Bryden Alumni Award for his dedication to the advancement of the university through exceptional service, commitment and contributions.
Originally from Bathurst, New Brunswick, Bill graduated from York University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology and Economics. In 1994, he successfully completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
Bill and his wife Jan reside in Toronto. They have four children.
