A Day in the Life of a Credit Analyst

Tom
Credit Analyst
8:15 a.m.

Arrive at work ready to go!

First, log into the system and get my computer up and running. Next, check voicemail and emails. Update email with today's date and my work hours for the day. Read any changes, requests and policy updates, as well as general news in the Unit that may have updated overnight.
9:00 a.m.

Complete any pending deals

Review deals from the previous day and follow-up with branches on any outstanding information that may need to be obtained. Select a new deal from a general queue and do any required prep work to assist with adjudication of the deal. This will include reviewing the comments prepared and sent by the branch representative, the package submitted by the branch with complete details ensuring our audit requirements are satisfied.
10:00 a.m.

Take a quick coffee break

WOW, where did the time go!! Time for a quick coffee break and then back to the queue to pick up another deal. I have to stay on top of things and ensure that I pace myself so that I can meet my goal and meet the Unit's Service Level Agreement.
11:00 a.m.

Assist one of the business units with a deal

I received a call from the CAS Unit. They did not understand one of the footnotes I've added to a deal and I have to clarify the information with them. Ongoing throughout the day, I deal with several telephone calls from Branches, dealers and some from the CAS Unit, which can cover a myriad of questions regarding previous deals that I have worked on or general questions regarding structuring of new deals.
12:00 p.m.

Grab a bite to eat

It is certainly my lucky day! I was able to get through half of my daily deals this morning. I'm going to happily take my lunch break and clear my head before heading back to the queue to pick up another deal.
1:00 p.m.

Work on a few credit renewals

Back from lunch! The new deal queue seems to be well under control so I will work on 2 or 3 Renewals and then take on something new. This will definitely help with the teams overall productivity goal for the day.
2:00 p.m.

Complete Pre-Funding conditions on a deal

Heading over to the fax machine after receiving a message from a branch regarding documentation that I have been waiting for in order to complete the Pre-Funding Conditions on a deal. The property did not appraise for as much as the client told us that it was worth. I'll have to escalate this deal to my manager for final review and approval (the deal is outside of my authorized credit limit). Back to the queue while my Manager reviews the deal - should be able to adjudicate a deal or 2 while I'm waiting.
2:30 p.m.

Review a deal with my Manager

Good news! My Manager agreed that the risk on the deal is still acceptable, even with the lower appraised value (just as I recommended!!) and so I can now auto fax the deal to CAS and they will begin to prepare the security documentation for the customer. Hopefully, if that process goes smoothly, the client will have the money shortly and close on the property purchase.
3:00 p.m.

Attend a Committee Meeting

I'm off to a Lean CI committee meeting. I really enjoy working with a team that is committed to continuous improvement.
4:00 p.m.

Adjudicate a few new deals

Back to my desk and the queue - should be able to adjudicate a couple more new deals before I call it a day.
5:00p.m.

An end to a productive and rewarding day

All in all it was a pretty good day! I managed to surpass my productivity goal for today and I can still leave work on time. It's days like this that make my job really interesting and rewarding!!
