TD Summer Reading Club
Helping kids keep their brains active when schools out
The TD Summer Reading Club is one of our signature community
programs in Canada - and among the ways we're making a difference for
literacy. Research shows kids who don't read over the summer can regress
up to three months in reading skills from the previous June. The TD Summer
Reading Club was created to bridge this schooling gap.
A highly popular initiative, the Club encourages kids to visit their local public libraries during the summer months. A wide variety of exciting activities is designed around a different theme each year, and libraries across the country are provided with free, high-quality materials to adapt the initiative to their own communities. Kids, 12 and under, who register with the TD Summer Reading Club receive a poster, stickers and an activity book all free as part of their reading kit.
Joining forces for greater impact
The program is a perfect example of our making a difference together philosophy in action. The club is funded by TD and operates as a joint initiative among TD, Library and Archives Canada and the Toronto Public Library, together with public libraries across Canada. Feedback from parents, kids, librarians and school teachers continues to be extremely positive.

Celebrating creative outreach
In 2007, we introduced the TD Summer Reading Club Library Awards. Libraries that host the TD Summer Reading Club can be rewarded for their creative outreach strategies and programs. Two libraries will be selected from English and French Canada respectively, with a cash award of $5,000 for first place and $2,000 for second place.
