TD works closely with a number of organizations, including members of the financial sector, government bodies and others to help address domestic and international environmental issues.
Here are some examples of our involvement:
The Equator Principles
TD recently adopted the Equator Principles, a set of globally recognized, voluntary guidelines established to assess and manage social and environmental risk in project financing.
United Nations Environment Programme, Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)
TD is a member, as well as a long-time signatory of the organization's Statement by Financial Institutions on the Environment & Sustainable Development. UNEP FI is a unique global partnership between UNEP and the financial sector. Over 160 institutions, including banks, insurers and fund managers, work with UNEP to identify best practices and understand the impacts of environmental and social considerations on financial performance.
Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)
TD participates in the CDP, an initiative on behalf of global institutional investors to report on corporate responsibility issues including business implications of climate change. Along with many Financial Times 500 companies, we contributed data to the annual CDP report on environmental emission levels of international corporations. Recently, TDAM Inc. and TDAM USA Inc. became signatories on behalf of TD to the Carbon Disclosure Project.
Canadian Banker's Association - Environmental Issues Specialist Group
TD plays an active role in this Specialist Group of the Canadian Bankers Association devoted to understanding and dealing with environmental matters from an industry-wide perspective.
Environmental Banker's Association (EBA)
A not-for-profit trade association, the EBA assists the financial industry in developing risk management policies and procedures.
The Research Network For Business Sustainability - The Leadership Council
The Network facilitates business sustainability in Canada through research and evidence-based management. Activities conducted by the Network include forums and seminars that educate the community on business sustainability issues and projects that synthesize prior research and knowledge into language, tools, and media accessible to managers and policy makers.
Public engagement/consultation
To continually improve our environmental practices and stay abreast of new developments, TD consults with a range of external groups. We seek input from and contribute to environmental discussions through meetings and open dialogue with other financial institutions, shareholders, clients, non-governmental organizations, academia and government.
