Projects Funded Within New Brunswick
Science East professional development provided by FEF funding increases knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm of teachers educating youth in New Brunswick. In addition, the program provides teachers with information and hands-on interactive science activities that they can take back to their classrooms. Atlantic Coastal Action Program-Saint John This project funded by FEF seeks to physically remove the sand plume washing into the Silver Falls Reservoir on Little River and restore the bank to its previous natural shape. One of the benefits of this initiative is to improve fish habitat. Atlantic Coastal Action Program The TD Friends of the Environment Foundation supported "Beach Sweep 2004". This project helped clean up beaches in St. John and Charlotte counties to help protect marine environment. Community members helped with the clean up and the event helped to enhance public awareness and appreciation of the natural environment, wildlife and our responsibility to protect it. The funds were used to cover the costs of bags, gloves etc. TD Friends of the Environment Foundation supported a summer youth nature camp program. The program is designed to give young people a chance to explore the world around them, will provide education on NB flora and fauna and camp will encourage conservation and broad base sustainable resource use and appreciation on a wide range of topics. Funds will cover the cost of kit materials. TD Friends of the Environment Foundation supported a local public library with the purchase of environmental resources on current environmental issues such as climate changes, forest and wildlife conservation, etc. The environmental books will benefit the entire community as it will increase their awareness on environmental issues and the natural environment. Funds were used for an environmental educational excursion to the Irving Eco-Centre near Moncton. The excursion will give students in grades 5-8 a deeper understanding of composting and enhancing our environment. The trip will give students hands-on experience. The trip is also linked to all areas of the school curriculum. The funds will cover transportation costs. |
