Save on insurance – without scrimping on coverage

Want to pay less for insurance without cutting corners on coverage? It might sound like a tall order, but there are lots of small steps Canadians can take to save money on home and auto insurance, without sacrificing comprehensive coverage.

“Insurance costs are based on a number of factors,” says Henry Blumenthal, Vice President and Chief Underwriter, TD Insurance. “The first thing you should do is call your insurance provider to ensure your information is up-to-date. Something as simple as switching to a job with a shorter commute can impact your auto insurance premium.”

The information insurers look at may not be obvious so it’s worth taking a few minutes to double-check the details of your policy. For example, if you are a homeowner and you’ve recently quit smoking, you may be eligible for savings on your home insurance policy since it reduces the risk of fire.

In addition to making sure that your premiums are updated, re-examining how your policy is set up can also help to put some money back in your pocket. As a TD Insurance customer, you can save simply by combining your home and auto insurance policies. And, if you take a driver’s education course, you’ll be eligible for more savings on auto insurance.

“Everyone loves to save money,” adds Blumenthal. “By following these tips and starting a dialogue with your insurance provider, you’ll be able to find out what you can do to lower the cost of insurance – without reducing the amount of coverage you have.”
