TDAM's sustainable investment achievements and priorities

Published:25/08/2022

Sustainability is top of mind at TD Asset Management Inc. (TDAM), and we are proud of the progress we have made to better integrate ESG factors in our investment analysis. As we have refined our approach, we have made significant changes and enhanced the resources available so that ESG issues are addressed. This includes the creation and 2021 expansion of TDAM's ESG Research and Engagement team.

Our newly released Sustainable Investment Report 2021 (the Report) serves as TDAM's expanded sustainability report, an inaugural piece that aims to provide additional details on the work we do around ESG.

The Report provides an in-depth look at our sustainable investing practices, progress and priorities for the 2021 fiscal year. Some of the 2021 highlights from the Report include:

  • TDAM achieved higher GRESB scores year over year across the board, with Global Real Estate and Global Infrastructure well ahead of its peers. GRESB is a leading ESG benchmark for real estate and infrastructure investments across the world.
  • TDAM had 328 ESG-focused engagements with companies (compared to 191 in 2020). These engagements covered a variety of topics, including climate change, diversity, executive compensation and economic inclusion.
  • As of October 31, 2021, approximately 39% of mutual funds and exchange-traded funds managed by TDAM and eligible for a Morningstar Sustainability Rating were rated "high" or "above average" based on the Morningstar Sustainability Rating.
  • Of the ESG fund solutions that TDAM launched in 2020 and 2021, three were awarded a top-tier ranking in their respective categories by Corporate Knights as part of its 2022 Responsible Funds Ranking.
  • TDAM became a founding member of Climate Engagement Canada and a member of the International Corporate Governance Network.
  • TDAM engaged data providers on the importance of granular Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) data so that investors can assess firms lacking in diversity.
  • The firm updated its proxy voting guidelines to support at least 30% women on boards and at least one visible minority.

Additionally, the Report covers TDAM's new sustainable fund launches as well as our thought leadership published in 2021 and concludes with a near-term outlook on what is to come. This, along with TDAM's sustainable investing approach, provides information about TDAM's approach and progress in moving our sustainable investing work forward.

Commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with mutual fund and/or exchange- traded fund ("ETF") investments (collectively, "the Funds"). Trailing commissions may be associated with mutual fund investments. ETF units are bought and sold at market price on a stock exchange and brokerage commissions will reduce returns. Please read the fund facts or summary documents and the prospectus, which contain detailed investment information, before investing in the Funds. The Funds are not covered by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or by any other government deposit insurer and are not guaranteed or insured. Their values change frequently. There can be no assurances that a money market fund will be able to maintain its net asset value per unit at a constant amount or that the full amount of your investment will be returned to you. Past performance may not be repeated.

All products contain risk. Important information about the pooled funds is contained in their respective offering circular, which we encourage you to read before investing. Please obtain a copy. The indicated rates of return are the historical annual compounded total returns of the funds including changes in unit value and reinvestment of all distributions. Yields, investment returns and unit values will fluctuate for all funds. All performance data represent past returns and are not necessarily indicative of future performance. Pooled fund units are not deposits as defined by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or any other government deposit insurer and are not guaranteed by The Toronto-Dominion Bank. Investment strategies and current holdings are subject to change. TD Pooled Funds are managed by TD Asset Management Inc.
