Ongoing Trade Concerns Causing Short Term Volatility (0:21)
- U.S. President Trump announced a new 10% tariff to be applied to $300 billion of Chinese imports, scheduled to start on September 1, 2019
- The new tariffs largely target consumer products
- A deteriorating trading relationship between the U.S. and China remains the biggest risk for the economy this year
Indicators Show That U.S. Economy Remains Strong (2:41)
- 164,000 jobs were created in the U.S. in July – a solid number
- Wages are up 3.2% year over year
Q2 Earnings (4:12)
- Revenues are up approximately 2% and earnings per share are up around 3% year over year in the U.S.
- Earnings per share are slightly higher in Europe and down in Japan
