How do I avoid the foreign exchange / currency conversion when trading U.S. securities in my TD Direct Investing account?

You can trade U.S. securities in the USD component of your investment account for the following types of accounts: 

  • Cash account
  • Margin account
  • Registered Savings Plan (RSP)
  • Retirement Income Fund (RIF)
  • Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)
  • Locked-In Retirement Account (LIRA)

If your securities are currently held in the Canadian dollar component, you can transfer the securities to the U.S. dollar component using the Securities Transfers feature on WebBroker or the TD app, or by contacting TD Direct Investing.

If you do not have a U.S. dollar component opened for your account, you can contact TD Direct Investing to open one. Please log into the TD app and choose Contact Us or contact TD Direct Investing at 1-800-465-5463 to speak to an Investment Representative.
