At the centre of any healthy community are flourishing artists, vibrant cultural offerings and quality entertainment. We're proud to be making a positive contribution by backing numerous activities promoting creative and cultural expression. By doing so, we're helping many in the community enjoy and appreciate arts and culture in all its forms.
Championing our cultural institutions
Museums, art galleries and related cultural institutions inject life and excitement in the cultural fabric of their communities, dazzling and inspiring both young and old alike. Each year TD pledges financial support to various institutions for important restorations, expansion projects and new facilities and programs.
Here are some recent examples:
- The dramatic expansions of the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario;
- The spectacular new home for the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada; and
- The impressive integration of heritage buildings with modern design to establish Canada's National Ballet School.
Helping youth discover the arts
TD subsidizes costs for children and youth attending a variety of performing arts productions - such as:
- CanStage TD Dream in High Park: As the title
sponsor of the Canadian Stage Company's popular summertime event in
Toronto, TD provides ongoing volunteer support and underwrites children's
tickets so that all kids go for free.
- TSOundcheck: Offered by the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra, this initiative is for young people who want to take in some
live classical music at a price cheaper than a movie ticket.
- Discover the Jubilee Auditoria Education Program:
The Alberta Jubilee Auditoria Foundation offers this unique venue for
learning to Edmonton and Calgary students. Students actively investigate,
test and reflect upon what they have learned in their classrooms through
on-stage demonstrations and workshops throughout the auditoria.
- StudentRUSH at the Arts Club Theatre: An
initiative of The Arts Club Theatre of Vancouver, this program provides
deeply-discounted tickets to the local university and college student
populations to take in the live theatre experience.
- Spotlight on Kids Program: An initiative
of the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada, Spotlight on Kids makes available
free-of-charge, blocks of seats to children who would not otherwise
be able to attend a ballet performance. For many of the children and
young people who benefit from the program, Atlantic Ballet Theatre of
Canada productions are their first experience attending a live performance
in a theatre.
Nurturing the next generation
Our support doesn't end there. TD also believes in giving young artists a chance to flourish and succeed. Some of the programs we support in this regard:
- TD Dancer Intern Program: This program helps
emerging young dance artists with their professional development in
the performing arts. Offered through Toronto Dance Theatre, TD's investment
enables aspiring dancers to take part in new works, understudied roles
and learning workshops.
- Students on Stage program: As a sponsor
of this initiative offered by the Sudbury Theatre Centre, TD is helping
youth expand their theatrical talents and knowledge about theatre. Students
not only rehearse to perform in a play, but they also learn about sets,
props, costumes and so on.
More initiatives are highlighted under Other Community Support - Music.
