Our Performance

Our largest direct environmental impact is as a major owner and tenant of facilities, with a network that includes more than 1,000 branches. We strive to manage our facilities in a manner that reduces or minimizes our impact on the natural world. Here are some examples of how we’re making progress in this area:

  • In fall 2007, two new TD Canada Trust branches were built to satisfy LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Standard) certification requirements. We are currently analyzing new opportunities to use green building standards in 2008.
  • We do not own or rent facilities in environmentally sensitive habitats and we do not consider our principal products and services to produce any major impacts on biodiversity.
  • For our corporate offices, we have evaluated green building standards for our interior space and our focus in 2008 will be to establish a green building standard for TD corporate offices.
  • The TD Centre in Toronto (where TD is a major tenant) was awarded the BOMA-Go Green designation in 2007. BOMA Go Green is a national environmental recognition and certification program for existing commercial buildings.
  • In 2008, we will audit five TD sites in the Greater Toronto Area and one in London, Ontario. The audit will generate recommendations for TD to achieve green building certification.
  • Also in 2008, our Corporate Real Estate group will perform separate energy and waste audits of many TD sites, with the aim of lowering energy consumption and improving waste reduction, reuse and recycling at each site.
We are continually striving to mitigate our footprint - especially in terms of Energy Consumption and Conservation and Waste Diversion and Recycling.
