W. Edmund Clark, 58, was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer on December 20, 2002. Prior to this appointment, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of TD Bank Financial Group, roles he held since July 6, 2000.
Mr. Clark joined TD Bank Financial Group as Chairman and CEO of TD Canada Trust following TD's acquisition of CT Financial Services on February 1, 2000. In this role he oversaw the successful integration of the TD and Canada Trust retail and electronic banking operations.
Previously, Mr. Clark was President and Chief Executive Officer of CT Financial Services Inc., a position he had held since January 1994. Mr. Clark's initially joined CT Financial Services in 1991 as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer.
Prior to joining CT Financial Services, Mr. Clark had a distinguished career in business and government. From 1974 to 1984, he held a number of senior positions in the federal government. He joined Merrill Lynch in Toronto in 1985 as head of Corporate and Government Finance, specialising in underwriting mergers and acquisitions. In 1988, Mr. Clark was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Financial Corporation, a position he held until he joined CT Financial Services Inc. in 1991.
Mr. Clark graduated from the University of Toronto in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He earned his Master's degree and Doctorate in Economics from Harvard University in 1971 and 1974 respectively.
Mr. Clark is honoured to be the Co-Chair of the Heart and Circulation Campaign for the University Health Network (UHN), whose mission is to provide exemplary patient care, innovative research, and education. As well, Mr. Clark provides support to Woodgreen Community Services, an organization that delivers programs to promote wellness and self-sufficiency, reduce poverty and inequality, and build sustainable communities in the Toronto area.
Mr. Clark and his wife, Frances, make their home in Toronto. They have four grown children.
