TD's Frank McKenna helps rally Corporate Canada to support Haiti in relief efforts

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, TD made a $100,000 donation to the Red Cross to assist with relief efforts.

Frank McKenna, TD's Deputy Chair, is also actively involved with relief efforts as the Chair of the ONEXONE Foundation, a non-profit committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children at home in Canada, the U.S., and around the world.

Immediately following the earthquake, the ONEXONE Foundation - with Frank's help - began organizing and rallying a group of Canadian businesses including Air Canada, Canadian Tire, PepsiCo Canada, Rogers Communications and The Bay - to send a shipment of much-needed supplies from Montreal to Haiti. Some companies like TD give cash donations while others, given their nature of business, donate supplies.

In just a few days, 40,000 lbs of supplies were donated including medical items like dressings, needles, IVs, IV solution, boxes of syringes, and bottles of antimicrobial product - plus blankets, tents, sleeping bags, flashlights, batteries and water.

Air Canada generously donated a Boeing 767 aircraft to transport these supplies and on Saturday, January 16 workers from Partners In Health: Haiti and other Haitian Relief Organizations received and distributed the donated items in Haiti.

"All the devastation in Haiti can lead us to despair. But the country's challenges are not insurmountable. People can make a difference together," says McKenna. "Our collective efforts will help reduce the suffering. That's why we are asking Canadians to help out in any way they see fit. We have an important role to play."
