More than 400 TD Phone Channel and TD Wealth employees from
London, Markham and Montreal volunteered their time to take
over-the-phone donations from 7:00 pm to midnight on January 22,
2010 on behalf of World Vision Canada and CANADA FOR HAITI. TD
volunteers rolled up their sleeves and put their excellent customer
service skills to good use by answering 10,356 phone calls in five
hours!
“True to form, when World Vision called asking if TD
employees could help out, we immediately jumped at the chance to
lend a hand,” said Mike Nolet, Senior Manager Shared
Services, TD Phone Channel. “Something this big
doesn’t come together without the commitment of a number
of people. With over 400 employees taking part, from frontline
right up to our executives, we are so thrilled with the results.
This is such a great cause and another example of how we have risen
to the occasion to make a difference together.”
Some of the proud donations collected include:
- Two $10,000 donations and one $20,000 donation.
- Children using their parents’ credit card to donate
their weekly allowance.
- A caller from Vancouver donated for seven different
people.
- A caller from Haiti made a donation and shared his firsthand
experience being on the ground.
All of the TD employees involved felt this was one of those
profound moments they will never forget for the rest of their
lives. This experience has made them proud to be Canadian as
the people they spoke to over the phone were happy to support this
cause and many expressed thanks to the volunteers for being on the
phones. And proud to be TD for stepping up and helping out with
such a worthy cause!
The show raised more than $13.5 million which the government
will match for a total of $27 million raised. All proceeds will
be split evenly among a coalition of non-profit organizations
including Canadian Red Cross Society, Care Canada, Free the
Children, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada, Save the
Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada –
all of which will provide support to help save lives and rebuild
Haiti.
