Pre-authorized payments (PAP) allow you to arrange automatic payments of a regularly recurring bill or purchase directly from your TD Credit Card. You’ll also enjoy peace of mind knowing your regularly recurring payments will be paid securely and on time.

How to set up Pre-Authorized Payments with merchants

Pre-authorized bill payments can be set up with any merchant that allows pre-authorized payments, such as your cell phone, utilities, internet, streaming services, subscriptions and gym membership. Have your TD Credit Card on hand and simply follow these steps.

    Access your account with the merchant, either online or by speaking to them on the phone.

    Choose the option to set up automatic payments using your TD Credit Card.

    Now your regularly recurring bills from this merchant will be paid automatically on their due dates.

Setting up a pre-authorized payment (PAP) allows you to arrange automatic payments of a regularly recurring bill or purchase directly from your TD Credit Card. Pre-authorized debit (PAD) allows you to authorize automatic payments to be withdrawn directly from a TD personal banking account.


There is no limit on the number of pre-authorized bill payments you can set up on your TD Credit Card.


Regularly recurring bill payments on your TD Credit Card are eligible for base points or additional bonuses if your specific TD Credit Card has an automatic recurring bill payments accelerator. Check here to see the points and accelerators you may earn.


TD does not charge any fees for setting up pre-authorized bill payments with your TD Credit Card. However, some merchants may charge for automatic recurring bill payments. Be sure to check directly with merchants about any fees.


You must contact the merchant directly to cancel or discontinue any pre-authorized bill payments. Some merchants require advance notice to discontinue pre-authorized payments, so allow additional time to make this change.


Changes to pre-authorized bill payments on your TD Credit Card Account cannot be made on EasyWeb or the TD app. You must contact the merchant directly to make changes, including cancelling pre-authorized bill payments.


Additional cardholders can set up pre-authorized bill payments / automatic recurring bill payments using their card. For certain eligible cards, the primary cardholder will share eligible card benefits and earn TD Rewards Points, Aeroplan points or Cash Back Dollars from eligible recurring payments set up by the additional cardholder. If you think your card has been lost or stolen, call 1-800-983-8472 right away for a replacement.

When you receive a new card, you must update the merchant with your new card number, either through your account on the merchant’s website or by contacting them. It is your responsibility to settle any dispute or liability for transactions relating to automatic recurring bill payments directly with the merchant.


When your card is about to expire, you must update the merchant with your new card number when you receive it, either through your account on the merchant’s website or by contacting them directly.


If you accidentally pay a bill twice, please contact the merchant directly to arrange a refund of the double payment.


Any regularly recurring bill payments on your TD Credit Card account will cease once the account is closed. Please contact any merchants you have set up the pre-authorized payment with (e.g., cell phone plan, internet, gym membership, subscriptions, streaming services, insurance) to make alternate arrangements. Note that you will also be liable in case any regularly recurring bill payments are charged to your TD Credit Card account after your account closes.
