  • Supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy

    The world is changing at a rapid pace, leaving many of us feeling uncertain about what tomorrow holds. We believe that having a healthy environment is important to feeling confident about the future. Through our corporate citizenship platform, TD Ready Commitment, we want to help make the world more inclusive and sustainable. One of the ways we are doing this is by supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy by targeting a total of $100 billion by 2030 through our low-carbon lending, financing, asset management and internal corporate programs.     Kids face significant declines in their reading skills if they do not read over the summer. TD, since 1999 has been the title sponsor of the TD Summer Reading Club – a bilingual summer reading program delivered by over 2,000 public libraries in Canada for kids of all ages and abilities.

These images made headline news around the world, as the 80,000 residents of Fort McMurray packed a few items and left, some with just a few minutes warning.

    For TD, it was a call to action, to help and support the community, our customers and the 30 TD employees who call Fort McMurray home.

  • Bridging the Gap – Aboriginal Literacy Camps

    For the past decade, TD has worked with Frontier College, a national literacy organization, to create early literacy opportunities in Aboriginal communities. Last year, TD made a landmark $2.5 million donation – the largest made to a single organization in TD’s history – to help support and grow Frontier College’s successful Aboriginal Literacy Summer Camps.

    Established to help address the education gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, the national camps provide fun, high-quality literacy programming for Aboriginal children and aim to offset summer reading loss. As a result of this partnership, thousands of Aboriginal children across the country have benefitted to date.

    Lotus House was my beginning.” Those are the words of one woman, but they reflect the life-changing opportunity given to all who seek refuge at Lotus House, a shelter for homeless women in the heart of Miami, Florida.

    TD Bank is a proud supporter of Lotus House and its ‘holistic’ approach, hailed as a model for facilities nationwide. Offering more than a bed and a meal, the shelter helps women rebuild their lives – giving them a sanctuary to heal, along with gender-specific support to achieve greater self-sufficiency.

    Ken’s Story - ABC Life Literacy teamed up with TD to create Money Matters – a free financial literacy program that helps adult learners across Canada. More than 300 TD Employees have volunteered over 2,500 hours with the program which has helped many people like Ken learn how to better manage their finances and lead a life with fewer financial challenges.

  • After the Storm

    In 2011 a class 3 tornado hit Springfield, Massachusetts, causing environmental damage and widespread power outages. In this video, Annie Johnson recounts her personal experience of the storm and the rebuilding effort that helped the community get back on its feet. As part of their broader support for the city of Springfield, TD Bank volunteers replanted many of the trees that were destroyed during the storm.

  • Helping East Vancouver Thrive

    When rough economic times hit the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, many businesses packed-up and left the area. In 2010, TD saw an opportunity to come back and support the local community by opening a branch in the heritage Woodwards building. Through the storytelling of Spencer, a TD Branch Manager, this video shows how the Woodwards branch has become an important community hub. Not only providing essential financial services, but also working with organizations to support local food banks, mental health programs and Aboriginal youth groups.

  • A Northern Partnership

    TD aims to be the bank of choice for Aboriginal communities by supporting their economic development efforts. We are a proud supporter of the McLean’s Mountain wind farm, which is a project jointly owned by Mnidoo Mnising Power and Northland Power Inc. on Ontario’s Manitoulin Island. The project provides job creation in the community and promotes responsible development of the area’s natural resources.

  • TD’s response to the High River flood

    In June 2013, severe weather in southern Alberta caused significant damage to homes and other property and displaced over 100,000 people. TD’s immediate response to this disaster was to ensure the continuity of financial services in the area and support relief efforts through its employees and branches.

  • Taking Classrooms Outdoors

    A growing body of research shows that playing outdoors and engaging with nature is important to a child’s development, physical and mental health, and environmental awareness. Since 2010, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation has been providing grants to schools across Canada to build “outdoor classrooms” so that children can learn in and about the environment. There is no one better to talk about the benefits of outdoor classrooms than the students themselves. Listen to what they have to say!

    In an age of smartphones, tablets and YouTube, modern kids have fewer interactions with the natural world. At TD, we believe in the value of green experiences for children. Since 2000, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation has been providing grants to schools across Canada to build “outdoor classrooms” – spaces within school grounds that allow teachers and students to integrate nature into learning.

    TD Forests was launched in 2012 in response to customer feedback that the amount of paper used by the bank was the largest detractor from our environmental performance. Through TD Forests we are reducing the amount of paper we use, we are growing the areas of protected natural forest ecosystems and we are enhancing and growing urban forests and green spaces.   • TD Tree Days

    Shot on location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2011) – this video explores the impact of trees on a community. TD Tree Days is the main volunteer event for TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. TD Tree Days provides TD employees, their families and friends, and members of the community, the opportunity to volunteer in the communities where they live and work and to demonstrate their commitment to forest stewardship. Since TD Tree Days debuted in 2010, over 80,000 trees have been added to the landscape, with planting sites now in Canada, the U.S., the U.K and Luxembourg.

    TD is committed to removing barriers in the workplace so that all employees feel included, no matter their race, gender, religion, cultural background, abilities or sexual orientation. This video explores TD’s journey to be more inclusive for employees who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.
