What you need to know about the migration and ways to prepare

We are committed to making this transition as seamless for you as possible. In most cases, clients with an active Connect ID linked to their thinkorswim account will have very little to do. If you already have an active Connect ID for WebBroker, you will see your TD Active Trader account when you log in to WebBroker.

  1. Your migration will take place over a weekend to ensure minimal disruption and to maintain your ability to trade during market hours.

  2. Monitor your email inbox throughout your migration for important dates, information, and resources.

  3. Open orders in thinkorswim, including Good-'Till-Cancelled orders, will be cancelled and will need to be recreated in TD Active Trader.

  4. We are unable to migrate some customizations. It may be important for you to make notes, take screenshots or download specifications of your chart setups, alerts, custom scans or any other features you have come to rely on.

  5. Our Migration Checklist has been created to prepare you for your transition and guide you through any steps you would need to take before and after your scheduled migration.

How to access TD Active Trader

You will not be able to access TD Active Trader until your scheduled migration date. Please continue to use thinkorswim as you normally would up until this time. Any attempts to login before your migration date will result in an error message.

2.       On the menu bar, select the dropdown menu next to your name.

3.       Select the My Profile page, select Edit corresponding to the Email card.

4.       Input your new email address.

5.       Save and confirm your changes.

If you need any help, call us at 1-877-348-6722 Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET.

Allow one business day for the changes to reflect on the My Profile page.

During the weekend of your migration, you will not be able to access thinkorswim or TD Active Trader. You will have the ability to view your account using WebBroker if needed. You will also have access to your Practice Account. You will be able to login to TD Active Trader before market hours on the Monday following your migration weekend.

Note: All migrations are taking place over the weekend to avoid disruption during market hours. Your migration will begin on Friday at 8pm ET and will be completed before 8am ET the following Monday.

You will not be able to access or place trades on thinkorswim once your migration has begun. Any open orders (including Good-Till-Cancelled [GTC] orders) in thinkorswim as of market close on the Friday before migration will be cancelled, and you will need to create any new orders on the TD Active Trader Platform on the Monday following migration weekend.

There are a few steps we suggest you take before your migration weekend:

  • Confirm your Connect ID is linked to your thinkorswim account by attempting to log in to WebBroker. If you do not see your thinkorswim account when you log in to WebBroker please call us at 1-877-348-6722 to obtain a new Connect ID.
  • Try the TD Active Trader Practice Account and create your custom layout, which can be saved and exported to the live version. We suggest trying to recreate any customizations that have significant importance in your Practice Account before your migration begins.

There are a few steps you may have to take once your account has migrated to TD Active Trader:

  • If you have not already, you will be prompted to sign our Exchange Agreements at first attempt to login to TD Active Trader. This step is mandatory, and you will not be able to access TD Active Trader until you have accepted your Exchange Agreements.
  • Recreate any open orders, including GTC orders, that were originally placed on thinkorswim.
  • Import your saved layout from the Practice Account to the TD Active Trader live version.

When you sign into the TD Active Trader live version for the first time, your credentials are automatically checked to confirm whether you have the required signed Exchange Agreements currently on file. You will be prompted to read and sign any Exchange Agreements that have not been previously signed. This step is mandatory, and you will not be able to use TD Active Trader until you have accepted the Exchange Agreements.

Helpful Tips for completing your Exchange Agreements

  • Ensure that pop-ups are enabled, or you will not be able to view your agreements. .
  • You will need to acknowledge the required Exchange Agreements by clicking on the applicable check box before you can "agree to all" and submit. .
  • If you are unable to submit once your Exchange Agreements are completed, this means you have incomplete personal information. You will need to fill out all pertinent client information fields that appear on screen before you can proceed to TD Active Trader.

We are unable to migrate many of these customizations due to the proprietary nature of the thinkorswim tools. It may be important for you to make notes, take screenshots or download specifications of your chart setups, alerts, custom scans or any other features you would like to recreate. After migration, access to your previous thinkorswim will be lost.

Note: The charts you created in TOS will not be migrated to TD Active Trader.
Any watchlists containing more than 4000 ticker symbols will not be migrated to TD Active Trader.

We are committed to adding new features and enhancements to empower your investment decisions.

As we constantly work on enhancements to empower you with innovative resources and capabilities, there are some features that were available to you on TOS that will not be readily available to you at the launch of TD Active Trader.

These features include:

Feature

Description

Mobile

TD Active Trader is currently optimized for laptop and desktop computers. We understand that you enjoy trading from your mobile device, and we are currently working on a mobile app that we plan to release soon

Charts and Studies

While TOS has 400+ charts and studies; TD Active Trader will launch with about 100 charts and studies – we plan to expand this list in an upcoming release.

Direct Routing of Orders

On TOS, you have the ability to choose direct routing; on TD Active Trader you cannot specify your route and your orders may be re-routed as needed.

Order Scrutiny

Although most orders placed on TD Active Trader will process straight-through, some would require a trade review to assess risk management.

Scripting Language – ThinkScript

ThinkScript will not be available for TD Active Trader. New scripting language will be available, and you will not be able to migrate ThinkScript.

Order Rule Types

TD Active Trader will not support complex order rules at launch.

Live-Streaming

CNBC Live tv streaming will not be available in TD Active Trader at launch.

Missing Tools

The following trading tools are available in TOS, but are not currently available in TD Active Trader:

  • Probability analysis tools missing, thinkBack tool, OnDemand tool
  • Fred database – economic database
  • Some Screeners – spread book screener, spread hacker

Public Chat Room

Public chat rooms allow you to analyze and share with other pro-level traders.

We are committed to improving and will continue to invest in new enhancements to evolve TD Active Trader based on your feedback.

TD Active Trader and thinkorswim (TOS) may show a different "Trade Price" (per share) for your positions because when migrating this data, we used the "book value" from our Book of Record vs from the thinkorswim platform and divided this by the quantity of shares you own. Our Book of Record follows the CRA-approved methodology of Weighted Average Price per Share. This allowed many positions that may have been showing as a "blank" or $0 "Trade Price" on thinkorswim to be corrected based on our records and therefore may impact your overall Profit/Loss showing on TD Active Trader due to the corrected/updated data.

However, going forward, TD Active Trader will continue to follow the same methodology as thinkorswim (TOS) regarding your "Trade Price". This is the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method that thinkorswim has always followed. Migrated positions previously purchased in multiple lots will be considered as one position at the updated "Trade Price" and any new positions created will be captured at their respective purchase prices.

Although we have made every attempt to link your accounts in the same manner they were on the thinkorswim platform, when you first start using TD Active Trader, some of your linked accounts may not be visible or may have been removed.

  2. A dropdown will appear which will display all your linked accounts.
  3. If there are any missing accounts call us at 1-877-348-6722 and we will be happy to assist you

If the first party doesn't have sufficient funds in their account at another financial institution, or if the cheque or instrument is fraudulent, the other financial institution can refuse to pay return the cheque unpaid to us.

A hold period allows sufficient time for us to verify that funds will be available to pay the item.

TD Direct Investing will consider funds as uncleared until:

1.       7 consecutive business days (not including the deposit date) have passed if the cheques, denominated in CAD or USD, is drawn on a Canadian Financial Institution.

2.       21 consecutive business days (not including the deposit date) have passed if the cheques, is drawn on a U.S. financial institution.
