Group Head and Chief Financial Officer,
TD Bank Group

Riaz Ahmed is Group Head and Chief Financial Officer, TD Bank Group as of January 2, 2016. He oversees Finance, Strategic Sourcing, Treasury and Balance Sheet Management, Corporate Development, Enterprise Real Estate, Economics and Strategy.

Riaz joined TD in 1996 as an investment banker with TD Securities’ infrastructure and independent power team. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer for TD Securities and subsequently Vice Chair and Chief Administrative Officer. In this role he oversaw the Finance, Operations, Risk and Technology groups for TD’s Wholesale Banking business.

In November 2004, Riaz was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. A member of the Senior Executive Team since August 2009, Riaz has been instrumental in guiding TD's bank and asset acquisitions and treasury and balance sheet management.

Before assuming his current role, Riaz led two key growth businesses from 2013 to 2015 as Group Head Insurance, Credit Cards, and Enterprise Strategy.

Prior to joining TD, Riaz was Vice President and Director, Corporate Finance with Citibank Canada. He joined Citibank from Financial Trustco, a financial services conglomerate and merchant bank.

Riaz holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with Distinction) from the University of Calgary. He started his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1985. In 2013, Riaz was elected as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

Riaz is involved in a number of charitable activities in his community and co-chaired TD's United Way fundraising campaigns in 2013 and 2014. He is a passionate promoter of diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and chairs the Diversity Leadership Council at TD. In 2016, he joined the Board of Directors of the Aga Khan Museum.

Riaz grew up in Tanzania and later Alberta. He lives in Toronto with his wife, and they have two grown children.
